Haller strikes again as Ivory Coast beat Nigeria 2-1 in the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations to win their third continental title in a row. The striker, back in the national team after a 13-month absence due to cancer, finished off a cross from Simone Adingra with the tip of his boot nine minutes into the second half to send the crowd into raptures.
Nigeria had taken the lead seven minutes into injury-time thanks to a powerful centre-back header from nine yards after a corner kick by Wilfried Bony. But the Ivorians fought back in the second half to equalise at the end of the hour thanks to a goal from Franz Kessie, who was left with nothing to do but head in the ball from an Adingra corner.
With the victory, Ivory Coast, who had been eliminated from the group stage after two defeats, had earned a deserved third continental title.
